Work Permits/ Employment Authorization

An Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is a document that authorizes an alien to work in the U.S. With this document, an alien may legally work in the United States for any employer. 

The general categories of aliens that may apply for an EAD include (but are not limited to):

 

  1. F-1 student seeking Optional Practical Training (OPT) related to his background. Students must be enrolled full-time in an approved school for at least nine months.

  2.  

  3. J-2 spouse of an exchange visitor as long as employment does not support the J-1.
     

  4. M-1 Upon completion of their educational program studies and are seeking optical training related to their studies.

  5.  

  6. K-1 Applicants can file an EAD application within 90 days from the date of entry.

  8. L-2 visa holders

  9.  

Asylum applicants if the applicant filed a request for Asylum or Withholding of Removal and has waited at least 150 days since he has lodge his application. For more information about Asylum, please contact Meah Law Firm.
